Tally Export
Switch on the Tally export add-on, name your ledgers, generate sales, payment and stock files for Tally, download them and record what Tally reported.
Tally export is a separate add-on that turns the sales your store recorded (counter, online store and appointments) into files you import into Tally yourself. It does not post anything to Tally for you. Only the store owner or a store admin can open these pages.
Where to find it
As the store owner, go to Counter devices (/counter/devices), choose Settings, then use
Accounting and Tally in the Add-ons row of Counter settings (it shows On or Not on). You can
also open /settings/pos/accounting directly. The page title is Accounting exports. Other roles see an access-denied
screen.
Turn the add-on on
Go to Settings → Billing & Plan → Add-ons (classic sidebar) or Billing & plan → Add-ons (new
sidebar), or open /settings/billing?tab=addons. Tally export is a separate add-on at Rs 299 a
month; confirm the price on the billing screen before you activate it, then reload.
While the add-on is off, /settings/pos/accounting is titled Tally export · ₹299/month. and shows
two buttons:
- See add-on details opens the Add-ons tab.
- View history loads past exports read-only with a notice that the add-on is off. You can open a past pack and download its files, but you cannot start a new export, edit ledger names or record a result.
Read the export history
The history page lists each export with its period, channels, status and net amount. Use Show exports for to filter by All sales, Counter, Appointments or Online store.
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Building files | The pack is still being made. |
| Could not build | The build failed; start a new export. |
| Files ready | You can download the files. |
| Imported into Tally / Partly imported / Not imported | The result you recorded after importing. |
With the add-on on you also see Ledger names, New export and Open latest pack (the newest row). Older exports exist. Narrow the channel to find them. means there is no pager yet; filter by channel instead.
Name your ledgers
Open Ledger names (/settings/pos/accounting/ledgers). Exports cannot be generated until every
ledger they need has a name.
Create the Tally profile (first time only)
Enter Tally company name, Legal entity (GSTIN) and Tally release, then press Create profile.
Type each ledger name
Each ledger shows its group and an input. Type the name exactly as it appears in your Tally company. A ledger with no name shows Not named yet.
Optionally read names from Tally
Under Read names from Tally, choose a Tally masters file (XML). The page lists the names it found and saves nothing. Tick the ones you want and press Use selected names to fill the matching ledgers.
Review and save
Review N changes stays disabled until something changed. Check the old and new names, answer Why are you changing these? (required) and press Save ledger names. This creates a new version; earlier exports keep the names they were built with.
After saving, the page tells you how many ledgers still have no name; exports that need them stop for review. Retrying the same save after a network failure is safe.
Create an export
Open New export (/settings/pos/accounting/new). If no ledger names are saved yet, the page asks
you to Open ledger names first.
Choose the period
Set From and To. From must not be after To.
Choose what to include
Under Which sales tick Counter, Online store and Appointments (all are on by default). Under Which files choose Sales and tax (on by default), Payments and Stock. Under How much detail choose One entry per day for each GST head (default) or Every bill separately.
Review
Press Review. The review lists anything blocking the export in plain words: A ledger has no name., A record is missing details Tally needs., An entry does not balance. or Some records could not be read. It also shows unnamed ledgers with Name these ledgers, and totals for sales, returns, net sales, taxable value, central, state and integrated GST, cess and round off. If totals do not add up, generating is blocked.
Generate
Generate files is disabled while anything blocks, any ledger is unnamed or the review has expired (This review is out of date. Review again.). If figures changed while you were reviewing you see The figures changed while you were reviewing. Preview again before generating. and the button becomes Review again. Generating opens the pack page.
Download the pack and record the import
The pack page (Your Tally files., /settings/pos/accounting/exports/ plus the export id)
re-checks every few seconds while files build. When ready, the Files list has a Download
button for each file. Downloads go through your signed-in session, so a copied link will not work for
someone else.
Import in Tally
Import the downloaded files in Tally yourself.
Record the result
Under Record import result choose Everything imported, Some entries failed or Not imported, enter Entries accepted and Entries failed as whole numbers, and a Note for your accountant, then Save result. Everything imported needs 0 failed. Not imported needs both at 0. Some entries failed needs at least 1 failed and a note. This is your own record, not a check we run.
The result form is only offered until a result is recorded. To fix a wrong pack, open Check a correction, tick the entries, describe What needs correcting and press See what would change. It tells you whether the fix adds a separate addendum (the original pack stays as it is) or reverses and replaces the entries. This is a preview only; it does not change the pack.
Stock receipt details
/settings/pos/accounting/stock-receipts (Stock receipt details.) lets you add costs for stock
you received, so the Stock file has them. Pick From and To and press Show receipts; each
row shows its quantity and whether details are added (Details not added). Use Add details or
Edit to enter Supplier, Supplier bill number (optional), Item name in Tally, Unit
in Tally, Godown in Tally and Cost, in rupees (like 1250 or 1250.50). For a quantity
list without cost, tick Quantity list only (no cost) and answer Why is there no cost?. The
page states these details are your entries and are not checked against a supplier bill.
