Renew a Bought Domain
Obtain a renewal quote, pay manually, follow registry confirmation, and understand expiry fallback and automatic-renewal mandate controls.
Renew your domain before its expiry, and follow the renewal until the registry confirms the new date. A successful payment alone does not extend the registration.
Availability
Manual renewal and its progress screens sit behind Manage domain and work only when management is enabled for your store (otherwise changes are refused with Domain registration management is currently unavailable.). Automatic renewal payments are separate and still coming soon; see below.
Screen: Online Store → Domains → My domains → Manage domain → Overview (under storefront → Domains in the new admin sidebar). Choose Scope → Store if shown. Sign in as the store owner. Support and impersonation sessions can inspect permitted progress but cannot quote, pay, or change payment permissions.
Check expiry and eligibility
Under Registration, read Expiry, Renewal grace ends, and Redemption ends. An unavailable date is unknown, not a guarantee of more time. Refresh details loads confirmed information; Back to my domains returns to the list.
Renew now is shown only once the domain is registered and running: its status must be active, connecting, live, awaiting your payment gateway, due for renewal, charging, renewing or in its grace period. While the domain is still pending, failed, suspended or lapsed, the button is not on Overview at all (there is nothing to renew yet). When it is shown, Renew now requires confirmed renewal capability and eligibility. Disputes, pending suspension, operations custody, a read-only snapshot or a failed registrar read, and redeemed, deleted, or transferred registrations can block renewal. A suspended registration is renewable only if the registrar confirms that it allows renewal; renewing it does not itself reactivate an inactive store plan.
An inactive storefront plan can leave the store offline while registration management and eligible renewal remain available. This is separate from the paid-plan gate for a new domain purchase. Renewing, DNS and automatic renewal also stay open while your subscription is suspended; see When your subscription is suspended. Hosting-only accounts renew from Hosting → Domains; see Hosting-only accounts.
Quote and pay manually
Choose a renewal term
Click Renew now. In Renewal term, select 1, 2, 3, or 5 years. Supported terms depend on the registry and available pricing. Click See price. An unsupported term or unavailable confirmed price shows an error rather than a payable quote.
Review the price lock and tax
Review the quoted term, the domain charge, the tax, and Total. The tax shows as CGST plus SGST, or as IGST, when the quote splits it, and otherwise as one GST line; the lines always add up to the total. The renewal quote lasts 15 minutes. If it expires, request a fresh quote. If the registration expiry changed elsewhere, refresh the domain and obtain a new quote for the current expiry.
Pay the existing quoted attempt
Click Pay for renewal and complete payment in BillionBiz's in-app checkout dialog (Review your payment), which shows Base amount, GST (N%) and Total due from the quote you just reviewed, then Choose a payment method. If the in-app checkout is not enabled for the platform or cannot start, Razorpay's standard window opens instead. The automatic-renewal mandate setup always uses the standard window. Payment is available for an unexpired quoted or waiting-for-payment attempt; it is disabled during loading, another operation, a busy payment window, read-only access, or an eligibility restriction. Closing the payment window refreshes the existing attempt; it does not prove payment failed.
Follow registry confirmation
Read the attempt's status. Close leaves the dialog. Return with View renewal progress on Overview; Retry refreshes the attempt when offered after an error. Wait for Renewal confirmed, then refresh Expiry and check the new date before considering renewal complete. As soon as the payment is recorded you also get a Payment received for the yourbrand.com renewal email: your receipt, with the amount paid, payment ID and payment date. It is separate from the GST invoice email, which follows (see Emails you will receive).
Changing the term clears the displayed quote and requires a new price. The term is locked while an attempt is processing. Only one payment or registry renewal should be followed at a time: a renewal already in progress blocks a competing attempt.
When the payment window closes and the dialog says it is confirming
Once Razorpay reports that your payment went through, the renewal dialog stops offering See price and Pay for renewal, so you cannot be charged twice for the same attempt. What you see next depends on how the confirmation goes. The dialog re-checks the attempt by itself every 5 seconds while the browser tab is in the foreground, and it remembers the payment for the current browser tab: closing and reopening Renew now in the same tab shows the same state instead of bringing Pay for renewal back.
| What the dialog shows | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Blue notice If your payment went through, we're confirming it now. You won't be charged twice. with a Check again button | The payment is done and BillionBiz is waiting for the registry to confirm the renewal | Wait. Check again re-checks right away; it is disabled while a check is running, while the payment window is open and in read-only sessions. When the attempt moves on, the notice is replaced by the attempt's status (for example Payment received, Renewal in progress or Renewal confirmed); follow Understand renewal progress |
Yellow notice We are still confirming your payment and it is taking longer than usual. Refresh this page later, or contact support and quote order reference followed by your DOM- reference, and payment ID followed by your payment ID. Check again is gone | The check has failed 5 times in a row for a reason that may clear by itself | Do not pay again. Refresh the page later and open View renewal progress. If the attempt still has not moved, contact support and quote both values shown: the DOM- order reference of the domain's order and the payment ID. The payment ID is your Razorpay payment id when the dialog has it, otherwise the renewal attempt id |
Yellow notice We couldn't confirm your last payment. If you were charged, it will be refunded or applied automatically. Contact support and quote order reference followed by your DOM- reference, and payment ID followed by your payment ID. Check again, See price and Pay for renewal are gone | The payment cannot be confirmed automatically (the server gave a final answer such as a signature or amount mismatch), or the saved attempt could not be loaded after several tries | Do not pay again. Contact support with the domain name, the DOM- order reference, the payment ID shown and the time you paid. If you were charged, the amount is either applied to the renewal or refunded; do not start a second renewal in the meantime |
Only Close stays available in the last two states. Check Expiry on Overview and your bank or Razorpay statement before contacting support: if the expiry has already moved, the renewal completed and nothing more is needed.
Understand renewal progress
On Overview the latest renewal attempt's status shows as a coloured pill. Green is a confirmed renewal, amber is Renewal under review, red is Payment failed, and every other status is grey.
| Status | Meaning and action |
|---|---|
| Renewal price quoted | Review the quote and pay before its lock expires |
| Waiting for payment | Follow this attempt; check its payment outcome before paying again |
| Payment failed | Use a fresh manual quote only after the failed attempt has been reconciled |
| Payment received | Capture is confirmed, but registry renewal has not finished |
| Renewal in progress | The renewal is being submitted/confirmed; do not pay again |
| Checking the outcome | The registrar or payment outcome is uncertain; wait and refresh the same attempt |
| Renewal queued — payment received | Funding is temporarily insufficient; keep following this attempt |
| Renewal confirmed | Registry renewal has been confirmed and the expiry can be updated |
| Renewal refund pending | The refund process has started; follow confirmation separately |
| Renewal refunded | The renewal payment refund is recorded as completed |
| Renewal attempt cancelled | This attempt is closed; refresh eligibility before requesting a new quote |
| Renewal under review (amber pill on Overview) | A renewal attempt stayed unresolved for 72 hours and our team is reviewing it; the payment may or may not have been taken. Wait for our team's email, or start a fresh renewal if you want the domain renewed now; see Why does the button say Renew again |
| Automatic payment processing | A future automatic-renewal payment is processing; this is not a reason to make a competing manual payment |
Renewal history on the domain page
Screen: Online Store → Domains → My domains → open the domain → Overview → Renewal history. Renewal attempts are listed newest first (up to the latest 50), including ones whose payment is still pending or failed, with its date, period (1 year, 2 years), amount and a status chip.
| Chip | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Processing | The renewal is in flight: the payment is still pending, or it is being completed. Do not pay again while it shows. If the payment window closes without a payment, the attempt is cancelled and drops off this list. It shows Payment failed when the payment was declined, or authorized but never captured |
| Under review | The payment was taken but the registrar has not confirmed the renewal yet. A line under the chip reads Checking with the registrar — nothing to do; contact support if needed. Do not pay again; if the chip does not change, contact support with the domain and the payment reference |
| Renewed | The renewal went through and the expiry moved |
| Payment failed | The payment did not complete |
| Refund on its way | The renewal did not go through and your payment is being refunded |
| Refunded | The refund is complete |
Download invoice appears beside a row only when that renewal has an invoice. If a renewal went through before its GST invoice was ready, you get a Your GST invoice for the yourbrand.com renewal is ready email once it is. The panel appears once the domain has a renewal that is in progress, paid, failed at payment, or refunded or being refunded. Quotes and cancelled attempts never appear.
The reason shown in the renewal dialog. Open the dialog from Renew now on Overview or from the renewal progress link. The reason alert is plain English from the platform and never contains registrar text or an internal code. It depends on the attempt's status:
- While the renewal is processing (payment received, renewing, checking the outcome, queued or charging): if the platform recorded a reason, a blue alert shows it, and the standard line The current payment or registry renewal is being processed. Do not pay again. Refresh this attempt to follow its progress. stays visible below it. With no reason, you see only the standard line.
- Renewal refund pending: an amber alert shows the reason, or This renewal did not go through. Your payment is being refunded. when none is recorded.
- Renewal refunded: an amber alert always reads This renewal did not go through. Your payment has been refunded., whatever the recorded reason.
- Payment failed: only the declined-payment alert shows, with no reason alert.
The reasons the platform can show:
| Reason | When |
|---|---|
| Your renewal is taking longer than usual. Our team is checking it; you don't need to do anything. We'll email you within 5–7 working days. | The outcome with the registrar is unknown, or reseller funding is low, so the renewal is on hold. Wait; do not pay again |
| This renewal did not go through. Your payment is being refunded. | The renewal timed out waiting for funding, so it is refunded |
| The domain's expiry date changed, so this renewal was not applied. Your payment is being refunded. | The registry expiry moved while the renewal was in flight (for example you renewed it elsewhere). Check the expiry on Overview before requesting a new quote |
| Your refund is taking longer than usual. Our team is handling it and you don't need to do anything. We expect the money to reach you within 5–7 working days. | The refund itself is delayed |
| The renewal could not be completed. | A failure with no more specific cause; check the status and contact support if it does not move |
On hold, refunding and delayed-refund reasons need nothing from you except waiting for the email, and you must not pay again. For The renewal could not be completed., check the status and contact support if it does not move; request a fresh quote only after the attempt is closed. A payment that fails or is declined shows only the declined-payment alert, with no reason. A refund does not mean the domain was renewed; check the expiry on Overview.
A definitive failed registry renewal has a refund path. An ambiguous registrar outcome stays under reconciliation rather than treating it as a safe new payment opportunity. If temporary funding remains insufficient for 48 hours from the first queue entry, the renewal enters its refund path. A refund does not mean the domain was renewed; inspect the confirmed expiry.
What customers see after expiry
In the expiry rollout, an expired bought registration stops being used as the primary store address and the store falls back to its retained BillionBiz address. Read the address shown in the expiry notice. A successful renewal does not automatically select the bought domain as primary again: check DNS and HTTPS, then use Make primary when eligible.
Expired — renewal grace permits normal renewal only while the registrar confirms grace eligibility and its deadline has not passed. Redemption — restore unavailable cannot use ordinary renewal here. Restore support is coming later; contact support. The displayed grace/redemption dates are registrar-dependent, not a universal interval for every extension.
Automatic renewal preference and mandate
Coming soon: automatic renewal payments
Automatic renewal payments are not available yet. Recurring payment approval is not established, so no domain is charged automatically. Renew manually before the expiry date. Saving Automatic renewal preference, including the preference at purchase checkout, does not authorize a debit or prove a working automatic renewal has been set up.
The Automatic renewal payments panel on the Overview of a bought domain separates the preference from payment permission. A debit needs a separate active mandate, an eligible registration, an amount within its limit, and the provider's required notice. The panel always shows your Automatic renewal preference switch and the current mandate status, for example No payment mandate. While automatic renewal payments are not switched on, a blue notice reads Automatic renewal payments are coming soon. Until then, renew your domain manually before it expires. and the setup form is not shown at all: there is no Payment method, Maximum debit (INR), consent checkbox or Set up payment mandate button to click. The setup form is shown only when the server reports automatic renewal payments as enabled, and it does not report that yet. No mandate can be created and nothing is charged. Keep track of expiry yourself and renew manually. While your subscription is suspended, new mandates cannot be set up and automatic renewal cannot be turned on.
The Automatic renewal preference switch, the status line and the Retry button (shown after a load error) are always visible. The method, limit, consent and setup controls below belong to the setup form and stay hidden until automatic renewal payments are switched on, so you will not see them today. Revoke payment mandate appears only when a pending or active mandate exists.
| Setup control | Name and effect |
|---|---|
| Preference switch | Automatic renewal preference saves whether automatic renewal is wanted; it does not grant payment permission |
| Method selector | Payment method chooses Card or UPI, subject to provider support |
| Limit field | Maximum debit (INR) accepts a positive amount with two decimal places. The UPI limit is ₹15,000 including GST |
| Consent checkbox | I authorize a dedicated payment mandate… grants explicit domain payment consent up to the displayed amount, with provider notice at least 24 hours before debit; read the disclosed setup charge |
| Setup button | Set up payment mandate requires valid amount and checked consent; unsupported/unavailable recurring capability rejects setup |
| Checkout button | Continue to mandate checkout appears after setup details and Provider setup amount are returned; completing checkout still requires confirmed active permission |
| Revoke button | Revoke payment mandate opens a warning; Confirm change submits it and Cancel leaves it unchanged |
| Retry button | Retry reloads mandate status after a load failure |
The status line reads exactly one of: No payment mandate, Mandate pending — automatic debit is not authorized yet, Mandate active — eligible payments may be scheduled after provider notice, Revocation requested — new automatic charges are stopped; submitted payments are being reconciled, Mandate revoked — use manual renewal, or Mandate setup failed — use manual renewal. Pending is not debit authorization. If the renewal total exceeds the mandate's cap or the UPI cap, use manual renewal. A revoked or failed mandate also requires manual renewal or a new eligible setup when available; the coming-soon notice shows again in those two cases. If a mandate already exists (pending or active), the notice is not shown: the status line and its limit stay visible, and Revoke payment mandate is offered so you can stop it.
Revocation stops new automatic charges; submitted payments still require reconciliation and it does not undo a confirmed renewal. If a mandate covers all your domains, its warning explains that revoking it affects every domain using it. Preference and mandate controls are disabled for read-only sessions, busy/loading states, and restricted registrations.
Troubleshooting: why don't I see X?
Why is Renew now missing or disabled?
First check the domain's status: Renew now is hidden entirely until the domain is registered and active (or connecting, live, due for renewal, renewing or in grace), so a domain that is still pending or failed has no button to find. Then check rollout availability, owner access, fresh registrar details, supported renewal capability, and the registration's restrictions. Redemption needs restoration rather than ordinary renewal. An expired registration needs confirmed grace eligibility; do not assume the presence of a date alone guarantees renewal.
Why did payment succeed but expiry stay the same?
Payment and registry confirmation are separate. Use View renewal progress and follow the existing attempt. Checking the outcome or a queued renewal means the outcome is pending; do not pay again. Contact support with the domain, renewal attempt, payment reference, and current status if progress stops.
Why is my renewal on hold or its refund late?
An on-hold renewal and a delayed refund both mean our team is checking the attempt. Do not pay again. Wait up to 5–7 working days for the email, then contact support with the domain, the payment reference and the status chip in Renewal history.
Why does the button say Renew again, with a note about an earlier payment?
What you see: on Overview, a blue note reading Your earlier payment of ₹X on DD MMM YYYY is under review. Our team will apply or refund it., and the button reads Renew again instead of Renew now. In the renewal dialog the button that requests a price reads Renew again instead of See price.
Why: a renewal attempt stayed unresolved for 72 hours and our team is reviewing it; the payment may or may not have been taken. The amount and the date in the note come from that earlier attempt. Renew again appears under the same status conditions as Renew now (see Why is Renew now missing or disabled?).
What to do: you may start a fresh renewal with Renew again if you want the domain renewed now; the dialog lets you request a new price and pay as usual. Our team will still apply or refund the earlier payment, so keep the earlier payment reference and check your bank statement and the Renewal history chips before contacting support.
Why do I need a new quote?
The 15-minute price lock expired, the term changed, or the confirmed registry expiry changed elsewhere. Refresh details and request a new price. If a payment or renewal is already processing, follow it instead of starting another quote.
Why is a refund pending or my bank debit inconsistent?
Read the existing renewal status and preserve its payment/refund reference. Refund completion waits for payment-provider confirmation. An amount mismatch or unconfirmed capture needs support review; a second payment does not resolve the first one.
Why doesn't my automatic-renewal preference charge my card?
The preference is separate from a payment mandate, and a charge would need an active mandate, which cannot be set up yet. Even once permission exists it must satisfy the amount limit, lifecycle eligibility, and provider notice. Use manual renewal when available and verify the resulting expiry.
