Scanners, Printers & Scales

Use the connected barcode and browser-print controls, choose receipt paper width, and understand the current scale and device limits.

Use a barcode scanner to find catalogue items and the browser's print dialog to print an existing receipt. Check the bill on screen after scanning and check the printer output after printing; a successful lookup or an opened dialog does not prove that the physical device completed its job.

Screen: Open /pos directly from either admin skin. Scanning is on the bill screen; printing is on the paid bill's receipt.

Use a keyboard barcode scanner

POS recognises a scanner that sends its barcode as keyboard input followed by Enter. The automatic scanner detector expects a burst of at least six characters and does not intercept input while you are typing into a text field, select control or editable area.

Prepare the shared catalogue

Make sure the item's barcode identifies the correct product or variant in your store's catalogue. Use Products, Inventory & Categories for product setup. A scanner lookup uses those shared records; it does not create a new catalogue product.

Scan on the counter

Return to the bill screen and move focus out of text-entry fields. Scan the barcode with its Enter suffix. Check the item and quantity added to the bill. If the scanner is entering text in a field, use the manual lookup steps below instead of assuming the bill was updated.

Check sound and correct mistakes

Open Search and toggle Beep on scan (it reads Beep on a phone, 480 px wide or narrower; in the phone catalogue's one-row search bar it is an icon-only speaker button with that same name, tinted when on and crossed when off) if you want scan feedback. That switch is the only scan-sound control; More has no scan-sound entry (its order-sound toggle is for online-order arrivals). Sound is optional; use the bill row as your confirmation. Correct a wrong addition with Undo last item or the item's Remove action before taking payment.

Open search

Select Search to open Search or scan. Type a product name to inspect matches and select the right item. Type a code and press Enter to look it up when there is no name match.

Use the large-button barcode task

With Big buttons on, choose Scan, enter Enter barcode, then select Add item or press Enter. Find an item opens name search instead. Cancel leaves this task without adding an item.

Resolve an unknown code

If the barcode is unknown, check the code before using Add scanned product. The inline form keeps Scanned barcode read-only and lets you enter the product name, rupee price and optional GST rate, then Save product and add to bill. This creates or reuses a permanent catalogue product; it is separate from a permitted free-text amount line. Follow Counter Billing & Tenders for limits and safe retry steps. If lookup failed, retry it instead of treating the barcode as unknown. Cancel closes the product form; Close exits ordinary search.

Scan with the camera

Open the supported camera action

Open Search, then select Scan with camera when that action is shown. Allow camera access and hold the barcode in view. POS uses the rear camera when the browser supports it.

Check the detected item

After detection, the camera closes and POS performs the same code lookup as the scanner. Check the bill and variant before scanning another item. Select Close to stop the camera manually.

The camera action is shown only when the browser supports barcode detection and camera access. A denied camera request closes the camera view. If it is unavailable, type the barcode, use a keyboard scanner, or find the product by name. In Big buttons' manual barcode task, use the barcode field rather than looking for a camera button.

Select Print

Complete the sale, then select Print on the paid result. There is no preview screen in between: the browser print dialog opens straight away, or as soon as the receipt has finished loading if it was still loading. Select View receipt instead when you only want to read the receipt on screen. If the receipt says Receipt ready. Invoice number to follow., the document is provisional; check again when you need its finalized invoice number.

Print from the browser dialog

In the browser dialog, choose your installed printer, check paper settings and print. Inspect the physical print before handing it to the customer. If you close the dialog without printing, POS still counts the bill as printed on this device (see the reprint note below).

Change paper, language or copy only when needed

Open the quiet Print options button under Print. 58 mm and 80 mm choose the paper width; the choice is remembered on this device, so set it once per till. Language picks the printed language (it starts as the cashier's language and is also remembered on this device), and Document copy picks Original document or Duplicate of original document the first time a bill is printed; once this device has printed the bill, the list is locked to Duplicate of original document and Original document is no longer offered. Choose the options first, then select Print. See Receipt Languages for the 8 POS languages.

Reprint later

In Orders, Today, each paid sale has a Print button on its row, and each bill in a customer's history has one too. Each opens the receipt and goes straight to the print dialog. Reprinting a bill that has already been printed always prints a Duplicate of original document; there is no Original document choice. On a paid sale's received screen, Document copy is greyed out on Duplicate of original document once this device has printed that bill. This memory is kept per browser on each device (the last 500 printed bills): another till, another browser or the admin panel does not see it, and clearing site data resets it, so a device with no record of the print still offers Original document on that screen before its first print. The receipt opened from View receipt on a paid sale in Orders, and the Print button on an order's row, are always reprints: the Document copy list shows only Duplicate of original document and is greyed out, whatever this device printed before. The original is the copy printed when the sale was first completed; a reprint cannot be switched back to it.

Configure receipt printing

Screen: as the store owner open Counter devices → Settings → Receipt printer, or /settings/pos/printer. The title is Receipt printer. This page reviews saved hardware profiles; network-address forms shown in practice examples are not the live setup flow.

  1. On the bound counter browser select Add browser printer for this counter. A saved profile identifies its role, transport and paper width.
  2. Select Check printer connection beside a browser profile. The device must be bound to that profile's register. Choose the installed printer in the browser dialog and inspect the paper.
  3. Use Enable receipt printing when you are ready. Saving requires hardware-management authority; controls are disabled while busy or when that authority is unavailable.
  4. Check the result. The print dialog opened. Paper delivery is not confirmed. Check the printer before printing again. requires a physical check before retrying. Could not save or test. Reload the settings before trying again. means reload rather than assuming it was saved.

Why can't I test a saved printer? The test button is disabled for transports other than browser. Those transports need device-specific setup and certification. Open this page on the bound counter device for this register. means use the correct device. This screen does not establish weighing-scale pairing or automatically apply a scale reading to a bill. Offline weighed billing is unavailable.

A scale that prints stickers is different: the counter can read the weight from the sticker's 13-digit barcode once you switch on Weighing-scale barcodes and link each item number to an item. The weight digits on the sticker are always grams. Setup, the reasons a link is refused, and how to replace a link are in Price Labels & Weighing-Scale Labels.

Cash drawer, payment terminal and aggregators are not yet available

Automatic cash-drawer opening, integrated payment-terminal collection and aggregator integrations are not available as live cashier setup flows in this release. Use manual cash handling and the supported tender controls. Manual card payment records an external card payment after you check its receipt.

Troubleshooting

What happensWhat to check
Scanner characters appear but the bill does not changeFocus may be inside an input. Use Search or scan and Enter, or return focus to the counter before scanning.
A short or slow scan is ignoredThe automatic detector expects a fast barcode burst with an Enter suffix. Type the code into search for a manual lookup.
Scanner beeps but the item is wrongCheck product and variant barcode assignment and the bill row. Sound alone does not confirm a correct addition.
Not foundSearch by name and check the catalogue's barcode record; do not create duplicate permanent products from the bill.
No Scan with cameraThe browser may lack barcode detection or camera support. Use typed lookup or a keyboard scanner.
Print does not open the dialogThe receipt may still be loading: wait a moment and the dialog opens on its own. If receipt loading failed, use Try again.
The printed paper is the wrong widthOpen Print options and choose 58 mm or 80 mm; the choice is remembered on this device only.
A reprint says Duplicate, or Original document is missing from Document copy (why does reprint say Duplicate?)Expected. Reprinting a bill that was already printed, and every reprint from Orders (View receipt or a row's Print button), always prints Duplicate of original document; the list is greyed out with only that choice. The original is the first print of the sale. If this device has no record of printing the bill (another browser, cleared site data), the received screen still offers Original document before the first print there.
Print dialog could not openYour receipt remains available. Retry the print action and check the browser/device print setup.
Dialog opened but nothing printedCheck the chosen printer, paper and physical connection. POS has not confirmed a physical print.
A scale is connected but there is no weight actionScale pairing and application of its reading are not connected in this cashier UI. Do not substitute an unsupported decimal quantity.

Stock sold at the counter is shared with online commerce. Keep product setup in Products, Inventory & Categories, inspect original online orders in Orders, Refunds & Carts, and manage service prerequisites in Appointments & Bookings.
