Update Domain Contacts and Prepare a Transfer
Edit bought-domain contacts, understand registry approval and locks, and securely request a transfer-out authorization code.
Keep your domain's registration contacts current, and prepare a transfer to another registrar when you need one.
Availability
Contact, lock, and transfer-code screens sit behind Manage domain on each bought domain and work only when management is enabled for your store (otherwise changes are refused with Domain registration management is currently unavailable.). Registry capabilities can vary by extension.
Screen: Online Store → Domains → My domains → Manage domain → Contacts (under storefront → Domains in the new admin sidebar). Choose Scope → Store if shown. Sign in as the store owner; support and impersonation sessions cannot save contacts, change locks, or reveal transfer codes.
Refresh details loads confirmed information and is disabled while loading; Back to my domains returns to the list. If the latest registrar read failed, the Registrar details are unavailable banner shows and the page is read-only until a later read succeeds. Click Refresh details, or reopen the domain once its saved details are more than about 10 minutes old, when they are re-read automatically; the banner can stay until then even if the registrar has recovered. An older snapshot alone does not trigger it. Operations custody, disputes, pending suspension, and restricted lifecycle states can also prevent changes.
Edit one contact role
The role tabs are Registrant, Administrative, Technical, and Billing. Choose the role you want before editing: switching roles loads that role's confirmed values and clears the unsaved form. A contact change applies to this domain only; other registrations sharing its old contact retain their details.
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Full name | Required contact name |
| Company (optional) | Business name if applicable |
| Required valid address you can access | |
| Phone | International E.164 form, for example +919876543210; use + and digits, without spaces or hyphens in this management form |
| Address line 1 | Required street address |
| Address line 2 (optional) | Additional address information |
| City, State | Required location |
| PIN code | Required postal code, at least three characters |
| Country code | Two letters, such as IN; saved in uppercase |
| Registry field: … | Extra fields already supplied for the role, if shown; follow the registry's requirements |
Choose the role and update its values
Open Contacts, select the role, and edit the fields. Required or rejected fields show validation messages. These registration contacts are separate from changing the store's public business details.
Review an ownership-change warning
Changing the registrant's name, company, or email can require registry approval and a 60-day transfer lock. If the warning appears, select I accept the registry approval and possible transfer-lock requirements. before saving. Where both the registry and registration allow it, Opt out of the 60-day change-of-registrant lock before this change (where supported). is offered; it is not available for every extension.
Save and complete registry approvals
Click Save. It is disabled when nothing changed, acknowledgement is required but unchecked, an operation is busy, the session is read-only, or registrant approval is already pending. Follow approval emails from the registry, then refresh the confirmed contacts. A pending request keeps the previous confirmed contacts until approval completes.
The status notice distinguishes no approval pending, pending, approved, failed, and unknown. Read any Transfer lock until… date. An approved contact change does not mean a registry transfer lock has ended. If approval failed, check the confirmed contacts before retrying; an unknown ownership status can restrict transfer.
Understand the two lock controls
Screen: Online Store → Domains → My domains → Manage domain → Security & transfer.
Theft protection is a switch shown when supported by the registry. Change it to request enabling or disabling registrar theft protection, then wait for confirmation. It is disabled in read-only mode, during another operation, or while a confirmed registry transfer lock is active.
Theft protection and a Registry transfer lock until… date are separate. Turning the switch off does not remove a registry lock. Transfer-code requests are blocked while that lock is active or ownership approval is pending/unconfirmed. If the registry for your extension does not support locking, the Theft protection switch is not shown at all, even when the domain is already locked, and Also disable theft protection after the registrar confirms the request. is disabled. Transfer-code requests are still available then, subject to the registry lock and ownership-approval checks above. A registry without transfer-code support can reject the transfer request.
Request the transfer-out authorization code
Keep the transfer code private
The code authorizes transfer at your new registrar. Requesting it here prepares the transfer; it does not transfer the domain automatically. The owner receives a security notice without the code.
Choose whether to disable theft protection
Under Transfer to another registrar, optionally select Also disable theft protection after the registrar confirms the request. Leave it unchecked to retain that protection. This checkbox is unavailable when protection is unsupported, a request is pending, the session is read-only, or registry/ownership restrictions apply.
Request the code and confirm identity
Click Request transfer code. In Confirm your identity, enter Account password, then click Confirm identity. The button is disabled until a password is entered and while busy/read-only. Cancel closes the dialog. Each reveal requires a new identity check; an expired verification must be repeated.
Retrieve the confirmed result
If the registrar is still confirming, the screen offers Check transfer-code request. Use that action with a fresh identity check to retrieve the existing operation; do not start competing requests. When the code is returned, use Copy code, or select it manually if copying fails.
Use the code at the destination registrar
Follow the new registrar's transfer process with the code. Clear code hides it immediately. It also clears after one minute, when you leave the security tab, or when the page is hidden. Clearing the display does not cancel a transfer you already started elsewhere.
The code display is temporary; it is not included in the owner's security notice. Do not send your password or transfer code to support to investigate a failed request.
If you close your BillionBiz account
Ask for the domain handover before you close the account
Domains you bought through BillionBiz are not deleted when a store is closed, but BillionBiz will not close an account that still has registered domains until each one has been handed over. Start with BillionBiz support, not with the close-account request.
Domain handover is done by BillionBiz operations at your request. It is not a button in the admin panel. For each domain it:
- Auto-renew is switched off for the account's domains. Renewal charges and renewal reminders end for the account's domains. This is done by the handover, not by closing the account, so a domain you have not handed over keeps renewing normally.
- The transfer code is released through support. Support gives the code, once, to the account owner's contact on file. It is never put in an email.
- Sends a security notice without the code when the contact is the store owner or an admin of the store. The notice is titled A transfer code was requested for your domain, and says that someone signed in to your account asked for the code needed to move the domain to another registrar, that the code was shown only on screen and is not in the email, and that you can ignore it if it was you. If the contact is BillionBiz operations instead, the notice goes to the operations mailbox and you do not receive one.
Ask support for the domain handover
Tell support which store you are closing and who the contact for the transfer codes should be. While you can still sign in, check the registrant details under Online Store → Domains → My domains → Manage domain → Contacts.
Receive each transfer code from support
Support releases a transfer code for every domain that can be moved. Keep it private, as described under Keep the transfer code private above.
Move each domain
Use the code at the new registrar. Releasing the code does not transfer the domain by itself. Update DNS for the new provider; see the DNS page linked below.
Close the account
Once every domain is handed over, the account can be closed. If any domain is still waiting on a transfer lock, the close request is refused with a conflict error until the domain is handed over.
What happens to each domain during the handover:
| Domain state | Outcome |
|---|---|
| Active, live, connecting, awaiting verification, renewal due, or in grace | Transfer code released. Alternatively, you can ask support to let the domain lapse instead. |
| Inside the registry's 60-day lock after registration or a registrant contact change, with ownership approval still pending, or the registrar unable to respond | Not released yet. Support re-runs the handover after the Transfer lock until… date. The account cannot be closed until then, unless you ask support to let the domain lapse. |
| Suspended | Never released automatically. Support needs your explicit decision to let it lapse, and until then the handover is blocked. |
| In the redemption period | Never released automatically. Support needs your explicit decision to let it lapse, and until then the handover is blocked. |
| Payment, registration, renewal, or refund still in progress | Handover is blocked until the payment or refund settles. |
| Failed, refunded, deleted, or already transferred out | Nothing to hand over. |
A domain you let lapse keeps its registration until the current term ends and is then not renewed. Lapsed domains do not receive a transfer-code notice.
Transfer is not available inside 60 days
Registries do not allow a transfer within 60 days of registration or of a change to the registrant's name, company, or email. Avoid changing registrant details shortly before you plan to move a domain.
Troubleshooting: why don't I see X?
Why is Save disabled or the change still pending?
Choose an editable owner session and a fresh snapshot. Change a field, accept any ownership warning, and wait for existing registry approval to finish. Pending is not a completed contact update; follow the registry approval emails and refresh the confirmed values.
Why don't I see the lock opt-out or Theft protection?
Those controls depend on registry capabilities. Theft protection is hidden when the registry for your extension does not support locking; there is nothing to switch on or off for that domain, and this is not a sign of a missing plan or permission. The pre-change 60-day lock opt-out also depends on eligibility for this registration. You cannot remove an already active registry lock by turning off theft protection.
Why can't I reveal a transfer code?
Check the registry lock release date, pending or unknown ownership approval, and any lifecycle restriction. Support/impersonation sessions cannot reveal secrets. If password verification is unavailable for your account, contact support; if it expires, confirm identity again. A registrar that does not support this transfer action can reject it.
Why did the code disappear or fail to copy?
The screen clears it after one minute or when hidden/left. Request another reveal with a fresh identity check if needed. Could not copy the code means the clipboard action failed; select the visible code manually while it remains displayed.
Why can't I get my transfer code yet, or why can't I close my account?
BillionBiz support releases the code during the domain handover, before the account is closed. The code is not available if the domain is inside the 60-day lock after registration or a registrant contact change (support can re-run the handover after the Transfer lock until… date), if registrant approval is still pending, if the domain is suspended or in the redemption period (support needs your decision to let it lapse), or if a payment, renewal, or refund is still in progress. While any domain is waiting, the account cannot be closed. The security notice never contains the code, so ask support for it; and you receive that notice only when the contact is the store owner or an admin of the store.
Why did auto-renew stop on my domain?
The handover turns auto-renew off so a domain you are moving out is not renewed. Closing the account without a handover is refused while the account still has domains.
